Since
September 11 2001, U.S. Customs and U.S importers
have seen a increased need to protect global commerce
from terrorism. Some initiatives translated into
formal programs (E.g. Customs-Trade Partnership
Against Terrorism -C-TPAT) and others just stay
as a general call on the importers side upon importing
businesses and service providers to establish policies
to enhance their own security practices and those
of business partners, such as contract service providers,
involved in the supply chain. Once these policies
are in effect, imports by these businesses would
be given expedited processing at ports of entry.

ALGI
has specific programs and components that cover
security concerns. These items may be included as
a package in the social auditing or be evaluated
as one individual aspect of compliance. Security
assesments include:
a)
Assessment of the current state and effectiveness
of your security practices and procedures,
b) Evaluation of management systems and record keeping
such as local manifesting procedures and export
licenses,
c) Assisting in process improvements, where needed,
to effectively comply with security and custums
requirements
