The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) initiative is a global program that promotes responsible chemical management across the textile, apparel, and footwear industries. It provides tools and guidelines, such as the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) and the ZDHC Gateway, to help companies reduce the use of hazardous substances and improve transparency across their supply chains.
Within this framework, ZDHC Verified InCheck – Level 1 is a verification process designed to validate the accuracy and completeness of a facility’s chemical inventory, strengthening confidence in reported data and supporting alignment with ZDHC requirements.
The objective of a Verified InCheck – Level 1 is to review the overall completeness and accuracy of the chemical products listed in a facility’s chemical inventory against those published in the ZDHC Gateway – Chemical Module.
This verification enhances confidence in the Performance InCheck Reports generated by suppliers and supports alignment with ZDHC requirements.
ZDHC Verified InCheck – Level 1 is an onsite verification conducted by a ZDHC-approved verifier using a defined spot-check methodology. Depending on the size of the chemical inventory, the process follows either a Type 1 or Type 2 verification approach to assess the accuracy and completeness of the chemical inventory used for Performance InCheck reporting.
The verification is not a full line-by-line review. Results are expressed as a percentage score, with successful completion requiring a minimum threshold of 80%, enabling suppliers to obtain Verified InCheck – Level 1 status on the ZDHC Gateway.
Scope of the Verification:
ZDHC verification focuses on:
Validity:
It is recommended for facilities to undergo a ZDHC verification once per year, supporting continuous improvement and up-to-date chemical management practices.
Outcome of the Verification:
ZDHC Verified InCheck – Level 1 confirms whether the chemical inventory data used to generate Performance InCheck Reports is accurate and reliable at the time of verification.
The process does not assess chemical management systems, define corrective actions, or evaluate continuous improvement. A successful verification allows the supplier to be flagged with Verified InCheck – Level 1 status on the ZDHC Gateway
ZDHC Verified InCheck – Level 1 is an onsite review carried out by a ZDHC-approved verifier to confirm that the chemical inventory uploaded by a supplier and used to generate Performance InCheck Reports is mostly accurate and correct. The verification is recommended to be conducted annually and results in a Verified InCheck – Level 1 status being displayed on the ZDHC Gateway.
